Summer Writing SOL Remediation

BHS Summer Writing SOL remediation will be June 26th-July 2nd with testing taking place July 8th-11th.

Congratulations to our Valedictorian, Alex Kwong!

Kwong’s activities include the National Honor Society, Scholastic Bowl, Model United Nations, and varsity soccer. He also serves as a soccer referee with the Peninsula Soccer Officials Association and volunteer at the Virginia Living Museum.

He was accepted to the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. He plans to attend the University of Virginia and major in computer science. He hopes to work as a software developer after college.

Fondest high school memory:
“(My fondest memory is) staying after Governor’s School to play video games with friends.”

A tradition at your school you will miss:
“I will miss playing soccer for BHS.”

An achievement you are most proud of:
“(I am most proud of) becoming the valedictorian.”

I am proud to be an HCS graduate because:
“I am proud to be an HCS graduate because it has allowed me to meet and form connections with people.”

If you could thank a teacher who had the greatest impact on you, who would it be and why?
“(I would thank) Mr. Monahan for making class interesting and for being an all around cool person.”

Congratulations to our Salutatorian, Allyson Miller!

Miller’s activities include varsity field hockey, varsity softball, and volunteering as a tutor at Becky’s Buckroe Florist.

She was accepted to the College of William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Christopher Newport University. She has decided to attend the College of William and Mary and major in kinesiology. Miller plans to become a pediatric occupational therapist and hopes to travel following college graduation.

Fondest high school memory:
“(My fondest high school memory is) my senior season of softball.”

A tradition at your school you will miss:
“I will miss spirit weeks.”

An achievement you are most proud of:
“(I am most proud of) being able to play a sport and have a job while maintaining my grades and social life all at the same time.”

I am proud to be an HCS graduate because:
“I am proud to graduate from Hampton City Schools because my school isn’t preppy and pretentious, so it has prepared me for all types of people and situations.”

If you could thank a teacher who had the greatest impact on you, who would it be and why?
“I would thank Mr. Kidd. I’ve had him for three years in a row and he’s had the greatest impact on me. He pushes me to reach my full potential and also encouraged me to start tutoring other students in math.”

Two exams are held each day according to the following schedule. School buses are available to transport the students.  Lunch will not be served.

Green 1 – 8:20-9:50 a.m.

Gold 1 – 8:20-9:50 a.m.

New Horizons Regional Education Center (NHREC) exams will be held May 30-31. The NHREC CTE Completer Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 4.

This past weekend, we competed at the VHSL 5A State Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Not only did Edward Richardson defend his state title in the 300m for three years in a row, he also made history by being only one of two males in US history to defend a state title in the same event (500m) 4 years in a row!  He has also anchored Bethel's state winning 4x400 since his freshman year!  As a result, he is currently nominated as the Nation's Performer of the Week!  Please vote for our own Edward Richardson here!

EJ and 10 other teammates will travel to New York March 8-10th to compete at New Balance Nationals!  When you see these amazing athletes, please congratulate them and wish them luck.

Career Academy Enrichment Series

The Extended Enrichment Program - Academy League allows students to explore the academies on a whole new level!

This program provides breakfast and lunch plus learning outside the classroom.

The program runs from early February until May or June, spots will fill up quickly!
